Why is Juicing beneficial to your health

Why is Juicing beneficial to your health

With juicing your body can absorb more vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and enzymes than it can if you were to eat the produce. Heating and cooking vegetables will destroy some of the enzymes especially if you like your veg ‘soggy’.

Juicing has shown to improve and at times alleviate skin diseases, immune disorders, lower blood pressure and help fight cancer (some people have attributed juicing to getting rid of cancer but this has yet to be scientifically proven).

Juicing is a great weight loss aid, detoxes the body and if you find you cannot eat 6 – 8 portions of fruit and veg a day then juicing helps you keep up your quota. Also by drinking juice you are able to drop a couple of glasses of water per day as the juice substitutes the liquid. Juices can be an acquired taste. Our taste buds are so used to sugars that by introducing vegetables in juice form it can take up to 5 – 6 days for the taste buds to adapt. Please persevere. It is worth it. Juicing will give your digestive system a break and will help it function more efficiently. Although you lose the benefits of eating most of the fibre the fibre that is digestible remains and is easier for the body to digest. I would recommend ordering a couple of good books from Amazon. There are tons to choose from. I'd recommend a later one rather than one from years ago as they may well be too fruit based

Don’t be put off by the word ‘diet’ if you are not looking to lose weight. We are all on diets. Whether it is a healthy diet or a bad diet. The word ‘diet’ actually comes from an ancient Greek word meaning ‘a mode of living’.

Get into the habit of warm water with lemon juice squeezed into it first thing. This is amazingly beneficial for too many reasons to list here. I’ll do a blog on it one day.

Then try a juice for lunch or an hour before lunch. The best time to have juices is on an empty stomach. Build up gradually as to how many juices you have in one day as you can feel quite ill to start with as it helps rid your body of toxins and you get used to not taking on solid food. You do need to chew your juices though. Sounds silly and you look silly however by doing this you are preparing your stomach and your digestive tract to take a food delivery so it is ready to digest and deliver all the goodness to where it is required. Eliminating coffee, tea, chocolate and other stimulants from your daily diet may cause headaches, joint pain and lethargy for a couple of days but this is your body being efficient at getting rid of toxins. These symptoms will go if you persevere and you will start to notice so many other health benefits.

Juices need to be stored if you are drinking it immediately in a sun proof bottle, like a flask, otherwise nutrients will die. Also fill to the top if possible so oxygen isn’t stored and do not keep longer then 12hrs. The sooner you drink after juicing the more enzymes and nutrients you are extracting. You can freeze juices up to 48hrs.

The easiest way to juice is buy a really good blender and a few nut/mylk bags. Blend everything in the blender then strain through the bag. I have the Jason Vale juicer which is very good  but I have found that I can extract more juice plus it is easier to clean if I use the blender and bags.

If you do suffer from digestive problems, low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), weight fluctuations or are prone to yeast infections it might be worth consulting your doctor first.

In addition to juicing you may want to consider the balance of your diet with proteins, fats, carbs, vitamins, minerals and anything else the body requires.

Vegetables and fruit contain amazing amounts of protein plus they have the added benefits of being lower in saturated fats, higher in fibre, can help reduce cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes.

Chlorella and spirulina: Fruits and vegetables contain very little or no vitamin B. You may add chlorella and/or spirulina in tablet/powder form as a supplement. These two algae have very high content of vitamin B.

Seeds and nuts: Many seeds and nuts contain protein, fat and important amino acids for the brain and the immune system. These can be eaten as they are, or blended into your juice.

Please do your homework before changing your dietary habits and if you feel keen to try then at least try for 7 - 10 days in order for taste buds to adjusts and toxins to be eliminated.
